Painting Classes in Eau Claire
Learn How to Paint in Acrylic…with Professional Artist Matt Philleo!
If you’ve ever wanted to learn to paint, now is your opportunity.
I am currently offering acrylic painting classes at my studio (Artisan Forge Studios, 1106 Mondovi Rd, Eau Claire) where I will teach you, step-by-step, how to create your own acrylic masterpiece. This is not a paint-and-sip class (although I will be brewing a pot of coffee each night) but rather a true painting class where you will learn to paint realistically, and walk away with your own unique painting, not a copy of someone else’s work.
When is the class?
This is a 5-session, 5-week course. We start Tuesday, June 20, 2017 and we’ll have class every Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. until the last class date, which is July 25th. (We will not have class on July 4th!)
What does it cost?
The course fee is $50 per session, or $200 for the whole 5 sessions, a $50 savings. (Yes, you can come in for just a night or two and paint, but you will get better results if you take the entire class.)
What will I learn?
You will learn how to create a composition, how to select your colors for your palette, how to mix them, and brush techniques. We will explore the glazing technique, a method used by the old masters to achieve an incredible luminosity through applying several thin, translucent layers of paint onto a light canvas.
A little bit about me…
I have been painting portraits on commission for over 25 years, and full time for the last three years. My goal is to not only create a painting that is realistic in terms of correct color, value, and form, but also to capture the personality of the subject so that it brings comfort and encouragement to the viewer. I have been teaching painting and drawing courses at Artisan Forge Studios during the majority of this past year. Currently, I live in Eau Claire with my wife and three children.
How many students will you have?
Normally, I take on only 1-3 students at this time, based on studio space and also so that I can concentrate on helping each student with critiques and guidance during the painting process.
Is this course for everyone?
Whatever your skill level, I will personally guide you so that you can learn how to paint with confidence and be proud of what you’ve accomplished! Now I am not saying you will paint with the skill level of Rembrandt (even I can’t do that) but you will be a better painter after taking the class, that’s for sure.
Do I need to purchase supplies?
No. I will provide everything; that is included with your class fee. It’s hard enough to get all the things done in your busy schedule without having to add hunting down elusive art supplies to your “to-do” list. I have everything you need right here in my studio–paint, brushes, a palette, canvas. You will use the same high quality paint and brushes I do.
Do I need to bring anything?
Yes, please bring a photo with you that you want to paint from. We will be painting realism, and the only way to do that is from life or from a photo. I am primarily a portrait painter, but I have cut my teeth artistically, learning how to paint landscapes. You can bring a photo of a loved one (person or animal) or even a landscape photo if you’re more comfortable with that.
